Ingredients
  • 500 g gnocchi
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • ¼ red & green chilli
  • ½ white onion
  • pinch of sugar
  • ¾ red pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice
Sweet & Sour Sauce
  • 125 ml pineapple juice
  • 3 tbsps ketchup
  • 2 tbsps rice or white wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsps brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp cornflour mixed with 1.5 teaspoon water

Salt & Pepper Gnocchi


  1. Prepare your vegetables and put these on a plate ready to stir fry.
  2. COOKING THE GNOCCHI - you can do this 2 ways: 1. Boil for 2 minutes until they start to float or 2. Fry straight from the packet in some oil so the outside becomes crispy. Once cooked set aside ready to stir fry.
  3. In a pot add the sauce ingredients apart from the cornflour mix, stir and heat through. After around 4/5 minutes add in the cornflour mix, stir and let it thicken over a medium heat for about 2/3 minutes more. Set aside until ready to use.
  4. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a hot wok and add the garlic, onion and red pepper and stir fry for about 2/3 minutes.
  5. Add in the gnocchi and toss to mix. Then add the 5 spice and salt and pepper.
  6. Coat this together (If using boiled gnocchi be careful it doesnt stick, you may need to add a little more oil)
  7. Add the chillies and sugar
  8. Serve and pour over the sweet and sour sauce
