Ingredients
  • 4 Cups Tomato sauce (strained)
  • 1 lb Lean ground beef
  • 2 tsps Salt
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Large clove garlic
  • 5 tbsps Olive oil
  • 1 Handful of fresh herbs (mint, basil, sage, rosemary)
Quick and Easy Meat Sauce

This sauce is one of the ones that taste like it’s been cooking for hours but we know that it hasn’t.

For this recipe, you will need a lower and wide saucepan with a fitting lid. The larger surface area on the bottom will ensure that your sauce cooks in the right amount of time.

You can chop onions, herbs and garlic or leave it whole. It’s all based on person preference. I leave it whole because I know my kids will obsess over picking out every piece of garlic. It’s also cause I’m kind of lazy and want to get this sauce on the stove as quickly as possible.

You can use any cut of pasta you want for this recipe. The kids like the shells because they hold in a lot of the meat sauce.

Method:

  1. Place saucepan over high heat and add the onion, garlic and ground beef. Break up the beef with a fork or meat separator.
  2. When meat begins to change colour, add sauce and salt and cover with a lid. Once the sauce begins to boil, drop heat to medium and continue to cook covered for 40 minutes.
  3. For the last 10 minutes of cooking, drop heat to medium low and uncover. During this time, boil your pasta in salted water and drain. Add to pasta sauce and enjoy.
