Homemade Fish Pie Homemade Fish Pie

Homemade Fish Pie

There are so many different pie's in the world to cook, traditionally we would think a nice big dish with a flaky pastry top and a hearty, meaty filling....

But this one combines the flavours of the sea, a fresh cheesy sauce and mashed potatoes on top

Serve this with steamed fresh green vegetables and a little dab of tomato ketchup

Prep 10 minutes
Total 50 minutes
  1. Preheat the oven to 210℃.
  2. Grab a saucepan, fill with cold water and a pinch salt. Add potatoes and bring to boil, cook until tender. Drain and let steam dry.
  3. In another saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil, butter, garlic, onions and leeks and begin to cook for 6-8mins until soft. Meanwhile while the onions and leeks are cooking, mash the potatoes but not to a completely smooth consistency, you still want some texture to them. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Once the leeks and onions are softened, add the flour and cook for 1-2mins, stirring all the time to cook out the flour. Then start slowly pouring in the milk stirring all the time to make sure there is no lumps. Do it until all the milk is incorporated and you have a nice lump free sauce, stir in the cheese, parsley and lemon zest and heat through until the sauce thickens. It shouldn't be too thick but not too loose, taste to season.
  5. In a pie dish or oven dish, add the sliced fish and then pour over the sauce. Now with a big spoon, scoop up the mash and with your finger flick off little lumps all over the dish and make it as rustic as you want. Season the top with salt and pepper and place in the oven for 25-30mins until golden and bubbling.
  6. Once cooked, remove from the oven and dig in, or you could serve with some steamed green vegetables and a little red sauce. Either way, Enjoy.
