Shan, or “Shan Shan” as her friends call her, hails from a small rural village outside one of China’s largest cities named Chongqing. The food of this mountainous region is known for its legendary spiciness and delicious hot pot creations. Growing up in a small village, Shan became passionate about cooking while learning the art from her parents and her grandmother. Shan’s grandmother is over 100 years old and has lived a simple life in the village. Grandma raised Shan with the belief that the secret to long life and a strong heart is having love of all things. The love of cooking has always been within Shan’s soul and she believes that it is the most important ingredient in any recipe.
Shan’s cooking expertise is in bringing authentic Szechuan cuisine to the table. Growing up in the Sichuan province of China has taught her the importance of flavor. These bold flavors, particularly the pungency and spiciness resulting from the liberal use of garlic, Szechuan peppercorns and chili peppers are what creates the incredible deep flavors of true authentic Chinese dishes.
